  • Provide personal advising and support to approximately 300 undergraduates in areas of personal development, social well-being, and academic achievement, including academic regulations, course load, leave of absence policy, study skills, time management, and how to work effectively with faculty.
  • Supervise student care efforts, develop and evaluate residential staff providing care, including student Residential College Advisors; collaborate, when appropriate, with the Counselling Centre and the College Wellness Manager; work with the College team and campus partners to create a positive wellness environment in the Residential College.
  • Administer the Residential College manager and oversight of College facilities, buttery, and residential housing.
  • Oversee performance management of College staff.
  • Participate in Residential Education Curriculum development and implementation efforts, facilitate skills-based and advising workshops, as needed.
  • Lead the student learning outcome efforts of the Residential College to ensure intentional growth and development of students.
  • Provide oversight and support for the programmatic efforts within the Residential College which are led by students and residential staff.
  • Plan, develop, execute and/or participate in training sessions for residential staff, as well as division-wide.
  • Serve in a crisis management role for critical incidents on campus.
  • Serve on Yale-NUS College committees and participate in major campus-wide events such as Orientation, Family Weekend, Admissions Open Days.
  • Work with faculty on individual sensitive student matters that might impact academic performance.
  • Coordinate pre-major advising and coaching.
  • Serve as an interlocutor working with faculty, students and the administration on matters of student misconduct and/or academic integrity.
  • ADs with the relevant credentials are encouraged to teach up to one academic course each year, with permission of the Dean of Students and the relevant academic unit.

Qualifications
  • Candidates must possess an M.A. degree (Ph.D. preferred) or the equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant work experience, preferably in advising, para-counselling, student affairs, residential life, and/or teaching.
  • Be skilled and have demonstrated experience in working with undergraduates, especially in an academic advising and student care role.
  • Experience in academic affairs or college administration is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Liberal Arts education and a high-achievement academic environment.
  • Experience with Residential College models of student life.
  • Experience working with and managing student mental health support models.
  • Experience serving a highly multinational and diverse student population, and working in a multinational and diverse context.
  • Be adaptable, flexible, and enthusiastic about collaborative work; this is critical for the successful fulfilment of the Assistant Dean’s responsibilities given the AD’s multifaceted portfolio which covers residential life, student affairs, and academics advising.
  • Be an initiative-taker with a proactive approach to the management of the operations of the residential college.
  • Be detail-oriented and highly organized, which is critical for case-management and record-keeping pertaining to advising.
  • Familiar with student development, staff development and staff training models.
  • Proven experience in managing a team energetically; demonstrated success in structuring a team and building team members’ capacity to work with flexibility, cooperation, cohesion, and high morale.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; prior experience with effective communication to an institutional community and in one-on-one settings with students.
  • Innovative and entrepreneurial mind set, adaptable and flexible work style, including the ability to work flexible hours.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently when necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to think ahead and plan strategically.
