Role Purpose

The purpose of this role is to provide financial advice and guidance to the MD and the business leaders of the Media Line of Business (“LOB”) in support of the achievement of revenue, profit and margin targets both in the short and long term.

Key Accountabilities

Strategic Focus and Business Partnering

• Partners to provide insight and challenge through financial analysis to enable business partners to make key decisions and achieve targets
• Operate as a senior business partner and strategic advisor to the Media LOB MD and business leaders and lead the commercial finance contribution to the LOB, providing advice on key business decisions through sound commercial judgement highlighting options, tradeoffs, risks and opportunities
• Develop, lead and deliver financial and commercial strategies and decisions including investment cases, evaluation and pursuit of opportunities, driving focus on revenue growth.
• Lead and implement commercial finance strategic decisions that are guided by functional strategy and priorities
• Facilitate closer integration of Dentsu brands within and across geographies for the benefit of the group
• Develop and maintain multi-year financial plan for the Media LOB making use of the long-term strategy when considering short term tactical decisions.

Commercial Finance & Business Development

• Supports client and vendor negotiations by providing analytical insight and ensuring optimal balance of pricing, early payment discounts, rebates and volume commitments (where applicable). To provide negotiating options for the business without leading to non-profitable accounts and management of client payment terms to generate positive working capital.
• Ensure smooth client on-boarding for new business, including due diligence and credit insurance application.
• Continue to drive and lead the assessment of client profitability and work with the Media LOB management to identify and support initiatives to improve profitability/margin
• Provide input and decision support to the business for all investment cases and key business developments.
• Work with business leaders to understand short, medium and long-term resource requirements and impact on forecast, with proactive advice on improving outcomes
• Develop relevant benchmarking analysis, including providing competitor research, to ensure best practice commercial structuring is shared across LOB to drive commercial performance.
• Identify and drive operational improvement through analysis of financial plans, management information and performance. E.g. Partner with the leadership team, to drive a focus on diversifying media income revenue streams into new & sustainable models, implement and deliver relevant projects to drive this.

Financial Planning & Analysis and Compliance

• Manage the budgeting and forecasting process for the Media LOB, ensuring the right balance of risk and realism and using data analysis to support accurate projections.
• Analyses consolidated budgets and forecasts, and provides interpretation, insight and guidance. Identify actions to drive opportunities and mitigate risks.
• Track performance against internal targets and external best practice, making timely interventions
• Review and provide oversight of the sales pipeline in driving the revenue forecasts
• Supports the implementation of best practice financial planning techniques in line with business needs and supports initiatives to improve the quality and consistency of business and finance data
• Identifies and drives operational improvement through analysis of financial plans, management information and performance
• Works with business leaders to understand short, medium and long-term resource requirements and impact on forecasts and budgets
• Responsible for ensuring policy and governance requirements are met including compliance with Dentsu policies such as commercial & contract compliance
• Accountable for the income Statement and Balance Sheet across the Media LOB, including management of accrued income, trade receivables, WIP and accrued MO liabilities

Operational Finance & Group engagement

• Supports the Financial Controller and / or Market FD, as necessary with high quality and insightful analysis as requested from time to time and works with them to deliver impact with the business
• Proactive, positive and inclusive engagement with the operational finance team, maximising usage of its services and playing a key role in the success of the cross-finance relationships.
• Liaise with operational finance as required in the onboarding of new clients or vendors (ensuring close alignment to existing processes) and analysis of brand performance
• Open, transparent & frequent communication with finance leadership
• Champion and drive closer integration of Dentsu business units within the SG market

Leadership and Talent management

• Coach and mentor the Media Commercial Finance team to ensure their continuous development and progression.
• Build finance capabilities, tools and skills within the Media Commercial Finance team on a continuing basis to increase efficiency and the value add of the team
• Visibly sponsor and drive continuous improvement/ change programs throughout implementation to achieve project benefits
• Leverage and share best practice with your peer group and the wider Finance team
• Prioritise KPls and track performance against internal targets and external best practice

Person Specification

Qualifications

• Significant commercial finance experience in the advertising industry
• Experience operating as a trusted advisor and valued partner to business leaders
• Experience with changing overall business strategy through finance thought leadership and applications
• Experience of pricing and negotiation
• Experience in local accounting standards
• Expert level financial analysis skills
• Proven experience of successful collaboration between finance and non-finance teams
• Fluency in English
• Professional experience working in a fast moving business environment
• Graduate degree and/or internationally recognised finance/accounting qualification (i.e. CA/CPA)
